Lance Hartley

Lance’s upbringing was a blend of adventure and contrast, split between a cattle ranch in central Zimbabwe and a leafy suburb in Johannesburg, South Africa. After completing high school, he pursued a degree in Accounting and Finance, graduating Magna Cum Laude from a university in Virginia at the end of 2009.

Graduating in the midst of the global recession, with job opportunities scarce for new graduates, Lance chose to take a different path. Inspired by a sailing trip around Greece at the age of 12, he had long been captivated by the adventure of life at sea. Rather than confining himself to an office, he decided to chase his passion for travel and yachting. With careful planning and determination, he returned to South Africa, working and saving to fund his dream of moving to France to secure a job in the yachting industry.

In early 2011, Lance arrived in the South of France to begin his journey. Since then, he has had the privilege of working aboard some of the world’s most prestigious yachts, including M/Y DEJA TOO (170ft), M/Y QUATTROELLE (289ft), M/Y NIRVANA (291ft), M/Y HARLE (147ft), M/Y BROADWATER (165ft), M/Y ARROW (246ft), and M/Y 4 ROSES (185ft). For the past three years, he has been an integral part of M/Y SEALION, her extensive refit and relaunch into the charter market – with the ambition of being one of the best 60m yachts in the industry. Over his 14-year career, Lance has explored some of the world’s most breathtaking waters, continuously refining his expertise and deepening his passion for yachting.

Recognized for his drive, optimism, and commitment to fostering an exceptional onboard environment for both guests and crew, Lance remains dedicated to his profession. He currently resides between South Africa, the UK and the United States with his wife and two-year-old son, continuing to live his dream—sailing to the farthest reaches of the globe and embracing life as the adventure he always believed it should be.
