As I reflect on my life’s journey, I’m reminded of the day I was born – September 22, 1996, in the beautiful country of South Africa. Growing up in a household with a father serving in the US Marine Corps for 14 years as a decorated K9 handler instilled in me discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. His dedication and expertise in his field were a constant source of inspiration, and the values he embodied have stayed with me throughout my life.
Before finding my true calling in the maritime industry, I gained valuable experience in the construction sector. For three years, I worked as a project manager for a prominent construction company, honing my skills in leadership, planning, and execution.
After gaining confidence and expertise, I took the entrepreneurial leap and founded my own construction company. For another three years, I successfully led my team, delivering projects and building a reputation in the industry. However, my lifelong passion for the ocean ultimately drew me to the maritime world.
I began working as a Junior Deckhand, and my experience in management and leadership proved transferable. With unwavering dedication and perseverance, I navigated the challenges of my new role. Through hard work and a commitment to excellence, I steadily progressed in my career, ultimately achieving my goal of becoming a Chief Mate in just three years.
Beyond my professional endeavours, the ocean is also where I find my thrill and adventure, particularly through big wave surfing. The sea has always been a source of excitement and joy for me, and I enjoy spending time on the water, whether surfing, fishing, or diving.
The ocean will always be my passion, and I’m grateful to be able to make a living doing what I love. Whether I’m navigating the seas professionally or enjoying them recreationally, the ocean remains an integral part of my life. I’m excited to see what the future holds and how my journey continues to unfold.
