I am so thrilled to be nominated for this award and grateful to everyone who has taught me so much along the way.
During my merchant engineering cadetship with Maersk in Denmark, I logged more than 20,000nm and 8 months at sea. I learnt a lot and met some great people, but I wanted a more personable experience. It gave me the motivation and enthusiasm to join the yachting industry, so I started on S/Y Asolare as a sole engineer, which I am still currently on. We are a crew of 6 and I really enjoy the crew atmosphere, adventures and daily challenges I face and I am excited for whatever the future may bring.
I have completed 2 Caribbean seasons and 1 Mediterranean season, including 4 Atlantic crossings and a refit period in Palma. The best part is I have learnt to sail which has been a great experience and I am looking forward to furthering my sailing understanding as I go forward in my career.
Having seen both sides of the industry, I definitely want to remain on this path. One day I would like to be working within a bigger team, and the challenge of a second engineer who I could coach but also learn from myself. I believe that you are never finished learning and I look forward to all the things I have to learn and experience.
I have a love for the sea, hailing from a small island in Denmark called Amager, near Copenhagen. In my spare time, I love to fish and have spent time out on my dad’s boat since I was young.  The Atlantic crossings have been (mostly) successful, getting to catch tuna, wahoo, sailfish and mahi-mahi – ready for the chef to cook up for lunch for the crew!
