From a young age I have always been drawn to the ocean – it scares me, but excites me even more!
Never would I have guessed that life would take me on such an adventure and that my career
would lead me onto ships!

I have a natural inclination for accounts, admin & organisation and as such, after school I studied
Accounting and did my Honours Degree in Financial Management – I gave the rat race a try, but
quickly realized that it did not quite suit me. In the meantime, I had also started Diving…one
thing led to the next and I became a PADI Dive Instructor and met my husband in the process.

We then relocated to Bazaruto Island in Mozambique, where we worked at a 5* Resort for 2 years.
Him as Activities manager and I as the resident Dive Instructor – living a gorgeous Island life
while developing and learning the standards of a Prestigious resort which set us up for our next
adventure: Yachting.

Ten Years ago, we ventured to the Med to start our yachting careers.  Since then I have worked my
way up on a variety of sized vessels, both Charter & Private – the past 4 years as Purser on 2 different

Working my way up gave me a great appreciation for the overall workings of the vessel and the role
every single crew member plays in the success of the operation and the experience we provide for
our Owners & Guests.

I have a passion for people and driving the team approach. As the saying goes, the team is only as
strong as its weakest link…so investing in people and sharing the knowledge we have gained over
the years to develop each team member is very important to me. I have been very fortunate to
work alongside some exceptional Leaders in my career on board!

There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a plan come together harmoniously or the successful
execution of a project, trip or charter and all the intricate details that goes into it. Standing back at
the end of the day and feeling proud of what we have achieved is extremely satisfying and one of
the biggest reasons why I enjoy my job as Purser on board so much.  It is extremely demanding, but
it is such a rewarding feeling when it all comes together. We are in the business of making
“miracles” happen, catering to the most extreme requests and can often reminisce about the
seemingly impossible tasks that we have managed to pull off in remote locations or with very little
time! And always with a smile!

Having good shore support is also essential and building & maintaining these relationships is crucial
to the success of the vessel & service we provide. We cannot do what we do without the excellent
service providers that our industry rely on.

I am not sure what the future holds, but these years in yachting have definitely been some of the
most exhilarating years and it’s been quite an adventure to date!
