Tristan Mortlock

In 2003 at the age of 16 I was lucky enough to get a summer job in the south of Spain working for company called Marina Marbella, moving small boats around, deliveries, handovers and boat maintenance. After only 2/3 weeks into the job I realised that this is what I want to do, this is how I want to live my life. Towards the end of the summer I asked the boss if they would keep me on full time and they said yes. So against my parents will, I took a life changing decision and left school to pursue a career in yachting. After just under 5 years in the company at the age of 21 I got offered a Captain’s job on a 23 meter Motor Yacht called Lizzi which I accepted. Over 10 years later i’m still working for the same owner and we’ve moved up to M/Y AWOL. The most important thing I’ve learnt in 15 years is people create the environment, if the crew are stale then the boat is stale. I’m very very fortunate to say that we have put together one incredible team and they have made my life a absolute pleasure. I also can not forget our Central Agent Anna Granlund from IYC, we have been working together for almost 10 years, Anna has been incredible and we’re lucky to have her as our CA. It’s A Way Of Life.
