Hello
My name is Dylan Cunningham, I am 27 years old and from Aberdeen in Scotland. I started my yachting career in 2021 – while at home during lockdown my partner and I were watching below deck. As someone who has previous 5 star hotel experience I thought to myself ‘I could do that’. With the support and backing from my partner, I was able to find a course with Flying Fish UK that offered The STCW and interior course – which set me up for a life at sea. Seven weeks after the course I was hired on my first yacht in Malta!
I stayed with my first vessel for a year and 4 months but wanted to experience more of the yachting world. I went from that private vessel onto a 50m charter yacht as a 3rd steward. I fell in love with the fast paced environment of charter. The meeting of new guests and the new locations we would visit was just a great experience.
My first ever charter – the primary guests wanted to steal me as a butler for their home in England. Ecstatic from that offer, I could not accept as my love for the sea and travelling while excelling in my yachting career was just too precious to me at that time.
I have recently stepped off a 72m charter/private yacht as Head of Housekeeping. My first position with huge responsibility. I will say it was a challenge at times but I thrive in a challenge. My love for housekeeping has always been evident, I enjoy smashing out cabins and excelling as a team. I do have high standards and I make sure I hit them everytime!
When I’m not at sea, I retreat back home to Scotland. Where I spend time with my partner of 8 years and my 2 dogs. Ensuring to do courses when I’m home, just to improve myself and be the best version of me I can be.
