My name is Joanne Constantine, better known as Jo. I grew up in a small village in Devon located on Dartmoor National park, in the south west of England. Prior to yachting, Jo worked as a ski and snowboard instructor, teaching all over the world in countries such as Italy, Austria, Norway and Japan. She also lived in Australia where she worked as a stable hand for one of the best horse race trainers in Aus. It was her love for travel and the water which led her to complete her superyacht courses once back in the UK.
Over the past 2 ½ years she has worked on a few boats, from a sole deckhand on a 35m motor yacht; to lead deckhand on a 74m motor yacht. Her drive to encourage and mentor the junior crew in a forever developing environment has allowed her to gain lots of experience in leadership and taught her how to be a reliable role model.
Jo is now serving as Lead Deckhand, soon to step up to Bosun on a brand new 74m Amels build. Having the responsibility to set up the deck from scratch, is a rewarding opportunity which she is ready to grasp with both hands. Her strong drive to study and complete courses, means she’s now 6 away from her chief mate ticket and hopes that in the next few years she will have the opportunity to work her way up the ranks to become Chief Officer.
