Robert Glase

Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, I grew up in and around the sea from a young age. I have spent time working on fishing vessels and passenger ferries on the east coast of Australia developing my skills as a seafarer from a young age during school holidays for part time work. My time working on the fishing vessels and seeing the marine world first hand and the beautiful marine wildlife have led me to return back to higher education 2004 with a goal of entering the maritime field professionally in a full time capacity. In 2007 I graduated from the University of Queensland with a degree in Marine Resource Management with a goal of pursuing a career in conservation, education and law enforcement of the marine world.

Having found it tough to gain employment in the public sector I returned back to the passenger ferries to further develop my skills, completing both commercial Master and Engineering licences with AMSA, before discovering the world of yachting in 2009 as a deckhand in Croatia. Having worked my way up from a Deckhand to Captain I have been privileged enough to work on a variety of both private and charter vessels cruising some of the most remote areas of the world. A highlight being completing the build on a 77m Expedition yacht and cruising the remote Kuril Islands.

I have been lucky enough to work with some great captains whom I have moulded my management and leadership style from and now, as I find myself in the hot seat as captain, I take great pride in utilising the skills learnt whilst imparting my knowledge by teaching and guiding the next generation of yacht crew. Having been groomed since 2018 as a Jr. Captain, I took my first full time command in 2022 on a 55m working within a dynamic fleet with a world wide itinerary. During this time I was lucky enough to be promoted within the fleet to their 68m new build support vessel managing the crew of 22 along with the additional support staff.
