Following his secondary and higher education in the Netherlands, Italy, and the UK, Engel started his career as a loss adjuster in the UK, determining insurance claims resulting from damaged goods on board ships. In 1994, the International Chamber of Shipping employed him to represent shipping companies at the international level (IMO). In 1996 he joined Lloyd’s Register where he worked as a field surveyor in various offices worldwide. He was appointed Manager of the Rotterdam Technical Support Office in October 2005 following a brief period as Head of the Rotterdam Statutory Department. From January 2012 his career took a more commercial turn by leading the commercial team in Rotterdam mainly from a new construction perspective. Engel has been co-ordinating the yacht segment from commercial, technical, and marketing points of view including representing LR during the industry and governmental meetings since2000. He is always looking for solutions and driving LR as well as the industry forward.
