Jamila Garcia

CEO of Starfish Crew LTD:

I grew up at a fisherman’s town in Galicia, Northwest of Spain, and my yachting career did not start as it usually does for other people…

During my five years at University, I worked freelance as an Event Hostess and waitress at high profile venues in Madrid, Spain. During the last weeks of my Masters in Protocol and Events Organisation, I was hired to work at an economics forum at a renowned five-star hotel. It was then when my first owner’s PA saw me first, asked for my contact details, and called me for an interview.

I knew absolutely nothing about the yachting industry, neither had I the inclination to leave Spain, especially, to “work on a yacht”. Finishing my studies was my primary priority. Therefore, I kindly declined her offer.

She contacted me again a few weeks later, when she knew I would have finished my studies, flying me straight to the yacht on their private jet, and the rest is history!

I worked on yachts for eleven years (2010 – 2021), ten as Chief Stewardess.

In 2016, while employed on a rotational position, I founded my own company: Starfish Crew LTD.

We originally focused on Spanish speakers, consulting to those looking to start a career in the yachting industry, offering training, advice, and CV writing services.

Surely but steadily, our services expanded. We are now an MCA approved recruitment and placement agency.

As a trained butler myself, I wholeheartedly believe in the importance of well-trained interior crew. I am now an instructor for the International Butler School of Madrid since 2016, and collaborate with several media outlets, such as MH Boutique.

On a personal level, Paul, my husband and I, are the proud parents of a two-year-old girl named India. He is a super yacht Captain, and we do our best to enjoy the most of our family time together.
