Mike Yorston

I’m Mike Yorston, hailing from New Bedford Massachusetts, an American historic seaport known for whaling, boat building, marine repairs and commercial fishing. This is where my marine career started over 40 years ago, as a Carpenter/Shipwright working for local boat builders and shipyards. I refined my trade, learning from talented, hardworking old timers passing on the golden knowledge of their own past mentors.

We worked on many famous classic yachts and schooners in the yard. And when it was too cold to fish off shore, we would haul the now vanishing Wooden Eastern Rig Fishing Fleet. Working in the freezing cold of New England. This is where I paid my dues for my lifestyle today and gained a wealth of knowledge in the marine trades.

Moving on from the trades, I worked as a marina manager and organized many events such as rowing and sailing regattas. From there I took on a job as a manager for West Marine, the world’s largest marine supplier. There I took advantage of their environmental Mission Statement and Community outreach and with help founded a Community Sailing Program for inner city kids that is now in its 20th year.

Also, at West Marine, I helped launch their Mega Yacht Division. This is how I connected with AERE Marine Groupselling fenders. I joined them in 2002 as Director of Sales and have helped them expand their product lines world worldwide as the premier manufacturer of fenders, fender covers, inflatable docks and much more.
