MST1 Tonon is a native of Salem, CT and began his career in the Coast Guard in October of 2001. After basic training, MST1 Tonon was assigned to the CGC CAMPBELL out of New Bedford, MA, where he conducted Search and Rescue as well as conducted fisheries and counter migrant operations. In 2003 MST1 Tonon then attended Marine Science Technician A School and was assigned to MSO San Juan, PR and is a plank owner for Sector San Juan, PR. His next assignment in 2006 was Resident Inspection Office Ponce, PR and was relocated to Sector Boston in 2008 to conduct prevention missions in the Boston, MA AOR.

In 2010, MST1 was assigned to the Redeployment Assistance and Inspection Detachment (RAID) Team and travelled throughout Kuwait and Iraq conducting HAZMAT container inspections for the CENTCOM AOR. After that in 2011, he transferred to MSD American Samoa in the South Pacific where he conducted all prevention and response-related missions. In 2012, MST1 Tonon was re-assigned to Sector Honolulu, HI, and in 2016 he transferred to MSD Dutch Harbor, AK. In 2017, MST1 Tonon was transferred to MSD St Thomas, USVI where he is currently Lead Petty Officer of all Prevention and Response operations in the USVI.
