Thank you, ACREW, for recognizing the work we do at Ten Little Pieces and our commitment to inspiring action to protect our shared ocean from pollution. I’d like to extend my gratitude to every crew member, agent, and supporter of our annual People of the Sea World Oceans Day Clean-Up – now in its 5th year and those who actively support sustainability initiatives and reform in the maritime industry from IMO compliance to crew driven purchasing choices and dockside resource capture options. Every little piece we can stop from reaching the ocean makes a difference, and our impact magnifies exponentially when we work together.

With 11 million metric tonnes of debris entering our ocean annually, and this figure expected to triple by 2040, we all know the ocean is in trouble. But all the knowledge in the world means very little without action and it is inspiring to see our ripple effect motivating others to create their own waves of change.

After almost a decade cruising our blue planet and having had the privilege to visit some of the world’s most precious environments both above and below the water, my respect for the ocean motivates a deep responsibility to use my skills to inspire cross-industry initiatives to minimize harm and maximize preservation. After coming shoreside, I served as an interior instructor with Super Yachting South Africa and then as Marketing Manager for Superyacht Operating Systems. In 2020, I participated in the all-female eXXpedition round-the-world sailing mission to research ocean plastic and its impacts on human health.

Ten Little Pieces has grown from humble beginnings to become a globally recognized organization that empowers individuals, crews, and organizations to rethink resource usage and encourage positive impact, especially through local clean-up activities. Our education programs focus on marine debris, ocean literacy, and sustainability through circular economic theory and solutions-based thinking to inspire action towards the achievement of the SDG’s.
