Joey Meen, Director of the International Association of Maritime Institutions and President of the Superyacht Alliance, is a notable figure in the yachting sector with over four decades of expertise dedicated to advancing yacht education and training.
Having managed RYA and MCA training schools in the UK and France, Joey went on to establish herself as an independent advisor through AskJoey. During her 15-year tenure at the Professional Yachting Association (PYA) as Training and Certification Officer, she demonstrated a profound commitment to empowering yacht crew and bridging training Gaps.
Joey’s influence extends beyond individual careers, to shaping industry standards through collaborations with key regulators and associations like PYA, MCA, RYA, IAMI and SYBAss. Her notable projects include spearheading initiatives such as the RYA Personal Watercraft for Superyachts, the RYA Superyacht Tender Operators course, the MCA Ships Cook Assessment process, and the more recent SYBAss led Yacht Owners Representative Program.
Joey also founded the GUEST Program in 2013, (Guidelines for Excellence in Superyacht Training), and under the governance of IAMI, continues to champion industry-led professional development opportunities tailored to meet evolving industry demands, while upholding standards and investments in crew training.
Beyond her professional endeavours, Joey remains actively engaged in shaping yacht education through participation in working groups, global yachting events, panels, and seminars. Committed to supporting and representing yacht education she looks forward to continuing to advocate for crew training and beyond, while further contributing to the industry’s advancement in education opportunities.
