Emile Coetzee

Started: January 2003 with his current owner … 19 great years and three yachts … Emile has been a professional yachtsman for 30 years, working on; La Venetia, September Blue, Mylin III (Intrepid II, Jamaica Bay, Legend), Moecca, Shandor (Margaux Rose/ Louisianna/Griff), Moecca (Build Mate. Waterjet catamaran; 70,000 Miles and seven years), Thunder Gulch (TJ Esperanza) and High Chaparral (Troyanda/Hanikon). He was the build Captain for the final months on High Chaparral and for the duration of Hurricane Run. These vessels have taken him from the Great Lakes, the Eastern Seaboard of the US, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Red Sea, South East Asia, Australia and the Pacific.

Emile grew up in a seaside town near Cape Town and was involved in water sports from an early age. He qualified from the University of Stellenbosch with a Masters degree in Urban & Regional Planning with majors in Sociology, English and Geography. He spent 2 years as a conscript in the South African Military Engineers Corps. He spent 2 years at The Armchair Sailor in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, involved in worldwide route planning for sailing boats and mega yachts. This also allowed exposure to a wide variety of published cruising guides, charting authorities, official publications and world-renowned sailors. Through this experience, Emile has become well-known and well-respected in the yachting industry. He is a knowledgeable, experienced and motivated Captain. He exercises every day; gym, hiking, kayaking and longboarding.
