Growing up between Denmark, my country of birth, and Spain, I spent a lot of time in a multicultural environment, both through travel, primary and secondary education.
I come from a long line of mariners but spent some years in finance after completing a degree in Business Administration and Commercial law. My passion for the sea made me turn my hobby into my profession twelve years ago, when many from the finance sector were forced out due to the financial crisis of 2008.
It was the perfect excuse to start a new career from the bottom up and so I began as a deckhand at the age of 30 on a motor yacht, dockwalking, dayworking and networking in order to achieve it. For me, it was important to ‘learn my craft’ and the greatest satisfaction was to be able pass on the knowledge to those within my team as my responsibilities grew.
I spent six years on a classic 52 metre motor yacht, arriving as a deckhand, working my way up and spending the last three years as the Chief Officer. Thereafter, I wanted to develop my maritime education to a deeper level and decided to embark upon the OOW Unlimited HNC in addition to the Master 500. After a good seven months at Warsash I achieved both.
This led to my first Captains position on a 34 metre private yacht and then to my current position on a charter yacht. I find that the combination of running a boutique hotel and being at sea is the perfect balance for me.
