Hi! I’m Gemma and I am a Chief Stew whose been in the industry since 2011.
After being based on a yacht on the West Coast of Canada for several years, I really started to miss the yachting community and more specifically, the encouragement of other stewardesses. Over time I felt as though there was a huge lack of support for the Interior Department online, and so The Yacht Stew was born. Initially, I wanted to remain anonymous and share ideas, table settings and cocktails from myself and other girls in the industry – I didn’t ever want it to be about one person.
Slowly, but surely the Instagram grew, I shared more about myself and my personal story in hopes that others may relate or learn from my journey to Chief Stew. Within a year, there was a blog & I was being contacted by stewardesses from around the world who were wanting to take part in writing guest edits or have their latest theme night shared online. TYS community now includes a Facebook group, where stewardesses can share personal thoughts and ask for advice, an educational blog that helps crew wanting to get into the industry all the way through to Chief Stewardesses looking for training guides for their team and a busy Instagram page that always puts community involvement first.
