Kane and myself both entered the Superyacht industry at different stages for different reasons but were fortunate enough to cross paths at a traditional yachtie bar in Athens back in Autumn 2017.
Kane at the time was nearing the end of his five year Superyacht career, finishing as Bosun on a M/Y Meamina, but still retaining a very large Faecbook following through ‘The Kiwi and Aussie Yacht Club’. Whereas I was 2 years in preparing for a bit of a long term career. Fast forward a couple of years and I’ve now been Lead Deckhand on M/Y Lonian for over two years now and in the industry for a total of five.
Kane is now a very successful Real Estate agent for Ray White in Auckland, already boasting his own branch, many sales and several awards to go with it, but is still heavily involved in the Superyacht industry around Auckland, with our company Yachties of New Zealand, and also Ray White Marine.
Meanwhile I’m still progressing through my Superyacht career on a world cruising yacht, and with M/Y Hodor as our support vessel, amazing crew and fantastic owners, it makes for a very special and unique programme. I am also currently halfway through my OOW modules and will carry on working towards this over the coming months.
What bought Kane and myself together with Yachties of New Zealand is Kane’s already established network and my vision to create a website that provides all of the personal, professional, travel and financial advice and services a Kiwi yachtie may need, not only entering the industry, but while they are making there way through the industry, and also planning there exit strategy. As well as a combined passion for wanting to help people out, which is the overall foundation of our business.
We are approaching one year going live and fully operational with our website and couldn’t be happier with how it looks and the purpose it serves, receiving so much great feedback from crew and industry professionals along the way.
