I grew up in a little seaside town called Exmouth in Devon always on and around the water or playing rugby as a kid. Even my 1 st job in my last year of school was as a water sports instructor. I was blissfully unaware at the time where this was leading me, I was set on a career in maritime law. Needless to say, things took a different turn after a few stories from a family friend, I was sold and booked my tickets to south of France with no idea what to expect…. But It’s the best decision I have ever made My parents instilled a very strong worth ethic in my brothers and I, something I will always be grateful for. Since arriving in France in 2019 my work has taken me from ‘radar testing’ dressed in tinfoil and a saucepan on my head in France to painting bilges in Italy and to the middle east where I spent 6 months driving high performance boats. Then I got the call from Captain Jason who I worked for in Italy asking if I was ready for a challenge. “do you want the
opportunity to be a first mate? It’s going to be intensive training all winter and a yacht master exam at the end. Work hard learn fast pass the exam and the job is yours.” I love a challenge and now I have my dream job and haven’t stopped learning to this day. As the season came to a close, I completed my AEC 1 and Efficient deckhand course, all helping me work towards my OOW in the future. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I love what I do it doesn’t even feel like a job to me. I couldn’t be more grateful. It’s been an incredible two years and I look forward to many more in the industry.
