Hello my lovely fellow Yachties,
Let me start by saying, I am truly honoured to be nominated for The Crew Awards 2022, it has come as a huge surprise and I cannot thank you all enough.
Firstly a little about myself – my name is Melissa Beattie, I am 27 years old and I am from a large city in bonnie Scotland. I have been in the Superyachting Industry for just over a year now, working as a Service Stewardess on M/Y Viva, M/Y Madame Gu and most recently landed my dream job on a new build Lürssen starting at the end of May – it has been such a whirlwind of a year in the best way possible! Outside of work I love to cook/bake for my family and friends, explore my surroundings with my camera, take part in any water sports available and check out the best hotels, restaurants and bars in the area.
I have forever been a lover of the ocean, a keen baker and an avid foodie which led me into the Hospitality Industry at a young age, 10 years ago. After graduating from University in BA (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism Management, I worked on small sailing yachts in Croatia for a season as a Hostess. As well as this, I have worked in numerous fine dining restaurants in the UK and Australia, the most recent being at The Gannet, Scotland (Michelin Guide) and Navi, Melbourne, Australia (AGFG Award). Over this time my love grew onto everything to do with hospitality and service, which led me to completing a 4 Week International Bartender Course in New York City, that left me highly knowledgeable about 72 cocktail recipes, free pour, flair and spirit history. I became fascinated by the experimentation of different flavours and the understanding of which ingredients work well together to create unique cocktails, which in turn is why these skills have since then naturally integrated into my work onboard, with cocktails being my main creative outlet.
With that being said, I am somewhat addicted to travelling and I have worked and lived in 4 different countries. The joy I get from meeting, socialising and living with people from all walks of life, as well as fully immersing myself into different cultures, continuously makes me excited to work and learn from a team of like-minded people. I am hugely passionate about learning from the best and being exposed to as much valuable knowledge and skills onboard, as humanly possible, with my fellow crew members being my main motivators and inspirations – the family vibe onboard is truly like no other. I also love and thrive off of the fast-paced working environment, specific attention to detail, creativity in all aspects of the interior and the drive to provide guests with an exceptional service experience at all times.
With all of that being said, I strongly believe that with endless amounts of positivity, hard work and a “glass half full” attitude, that anything is possible if you truly put your mind to it.
Thank you very much for taking the time to learn about my journey into yachting. I hope you all have a wonderful day, wherever in the world that may be. I hope to see you all out on the water, doing what we love soon!
Best wishes,
Melissa
