As a chief stewardess and purser, I guided and mentored many crew during my career, and continue to do so. When working as a purser I actively encouraged stewardesses who wanted to learn more about the role of the purser to sit with me and assist with things like accounting and port clearances. This would specifically be after hours when they had finished their stewardess duties. Even though it ended up taking me longer to do my work, it was immensely satisfying knowing that you have helped someone understand the role a little better and be able to be more confident when they do eventually move up the ranks.
I continue to provide my purser network with updates on the legal aspects of their role and help aspiring pursers understand what steps they need to take to be in a better position to obtain that elusive first purser role.
