Born and raised in small and beautiful costal town in Šibenik, Slaven had to live at sea.
After graduation in 1992 he spent one year as apprentice engineer on general cargo ship and got his first engineering ticket. From there, he gained experience in merchant navy as an officer for 13 years, learning on different type of ships from BC, GC, Container, tankers and cruise ships. World wide cruising including Antarctica expedition gave him great experience and he finds himself grateful for the privilege to learn from great captains, engineers and colleagues about engineering , team work and power of the Sea.
He stepped up in yachting 9 years ago as relief Chief engineer as STCW III/3 Chief engineer up to 3000 kw . “It was a test I did just to see is that industry was for me or not ….and it was”. Something completely different from merchant but very exciting, challenging, dynamic and excellent way to apply knowledge and skills in a small enclosed space … from 300 meters to 37 meters in a month and all alone in the engine room. It was not easy but it was a step forward without turning back.
He decided to get certified for CAT engines, stabilizers, monitoring and alarm systems in his everlasting quest to be more efficient.
Always hands on, Slaven’s main goal onboard is to diagnose problems, solve them or even anticipate them. Get a boat efficient and safe in all situations possible is his priority and he always does so with team spirit and respect for all the crew members, owners and budget …
Slaven is not only a magic problem solver onboard but also a great team player with big heart, always ready for a joke or to tell you stories about his farm and olive trees at home (you can taste his own olive oil onboard), his 4 rescued dogs and most important his beautiful family : married for 22 years and 2 sons, he likes to say “Family gives you the wind in your sail
