At University I studied Law and Computer Science eventually working in Legal Finance. During the recession in 2009 I was made redundant twice and eventually pursued yachting to travel a bit. I started out as a deckhand, deck/engineer and eventually working my way towards my OOW. A few weeks before sitting my OOW oral, an opportunity presented itself to work as a full time 2nd engineer on a new build. Realising I was starting at the bottom again in a different department, I had to put the hard work I did for my OOW aside and put my head down and play catchup in the engineering side. Fast forward 5 years and I accepted the chief engineer position on the same boat.
Learning never stops as I still don’t know everything, but i’m sure i’ll get there just in time for everything to change, then i’ll start again.
