At Oceanskies the goal is to reduce the administrative burden of employment and payroll of crew. They achieve this by utilising “CrewMate”, their in-house bespoke cloud-based crew management and payroll platform.

At Oceanskies when you need to have a contract prepared for a crew member, they will not be required to fill out complicated/handwritten forms. Captains, managers and owners can initiate the onboarding process from their laptop, tablet or mobile device with as little information as their name, date of birth and email address to start the process. By entering this data the crew member will be sent a link to join the CrewMate platform where they can enter their details. They’ll have access to CrewMate throughout their employment and beyond so they can always have all their contractual documents and payslips at their fingertips.
Once Oceanskies has been provided with the contractual terms the individual Seafarers Employment Agreement (SEA) will be issued for approval through Sign Request to ensure the security of all sensitive information. The contract will be sent directly via Sign Request throughout the signing process making it easy for Oceanskies to track and ensure it is received by the required parties to be signed on time. Should any contract amendments or termination documents be required during their period of employment these can be requested through CrewMate. Long gone are the days of phone calls or email threads to confirm the changing of details or particulars.
Tracking crew leave balances has never been easier than with our CrewMate calendar. You can update the calendar with the day types needed from sick leave to standard holiday days and so many more in between. These colour-coded day types make it easy to understand why the crew are on leave and whether or not they’re still accruing leave on each day. You will always be able to view a crew member’s current leave accrual and see why balances may be higher or lower than expected with the breakdown page giving full transparency. This removes the likelihood of any issues arising when crew finish or exit their contracts.
You can add your crew’s expenses to CrewMate and they will be incorporated into the invoice(s) generated at the end of the month. Should any crew wish to submit expenses through CrewMate, then the Captain, manager or owner will be able to check and approve the expense request.
Captains, managers and owners can view all invoices and statements in real-time via CrewMate. If you ever need to check a past invoice you can do so easily without the need to contact the crew administration team. This will allow you to stay on top of the current month’s payroll as well as account balances.
CrewMate also allows you to see the real-time payment status of the crew’s salaries. Should any crew be concerned about receiving their salary, you can check whether the payments are on their way without spending the time and effort on contacting Oceanskies or the bank.
Finally, CrewMate allows you to monitor your onboard MLC requirements. There are so many things for you to stay on top of as a Captain and this functionality gives you the peace of mind of knowing that the employment of the crew onboard is compliant or what is missing or expiring.
