The role and responsibilities of the Captain are not clear lines drawn in the sand. Every yacht, all Crew and every Captain is different, which creates some grey areas that can create uncertainty in some important aspects of practice. In this panel discussion some of the areas highlighted by Captains as of concern will be addressed. Topics include the changing influence of management companies and their increasing involvement on yacht operations. Mentoring crew in their careers and encouraging a proactive approach to professional development will also be discussed, as well as who is responsible for maintaining up to date certification onboard. In addition will be looking at how Captains can lead crew effectively, earning their respect through due diligence and leadership skills rather than expecting respect to be given as they have their CoC.
